February 6th: Where are we? The famous workshop of Ernesto Hug in La Paz, Bolivia. Coen can work here at his own pace, using the knowledge and tools of the surreally tidy workplace of the Swiss Bolivean. Coen stripped the Land Cruiser's front axle and has nearly completed the overhaul, fixed the steering wheel and did a lot of shopping around for parts. It helps when there is somebody at your side who knows al the car parts shops in La Paz. Discovering a broken support beam on the back end of the Land Cruiser made us make drastic choices and we have now rented a house and are going to do a complete rebuild of our Toyota. We'll see what surprises await us...

In our logbook:
We drive some 1.000 kilometres of rough roads with dust and heavy rain before finally reaching civilization again. The ascent onto the Altiplano was sudden and steep and before we knew it we were at 4.600 meters. In La Paz we meet up with other travellers and camp in the parking lot of the well known Hotel Oberland at 3.200 meters. At last we meet up with Coen's cousing Jaap, who is about to get married with Carla next week in Cochabamba.

All that and more in our latest logbook story.

Enjoy reading, Karin-Marijke and Coen

Does the little red car on the left look familiar to you? Does BBC's "Top Gear Bolivia Special" ring a bell?
